EUROPEAN ORGANIZATION FOR QUALITY – HUNGARIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE (EOQ MNB)

The European Organization for Quality founded its Hungarian National Committee [Magyar Nemzeti Bizottság - MNB] in 1972. It has been working as a non-profit organization since 1 January 1998. Among its almost 2500 legal and personal members we can find food industry, industrial, agricultural and service companies, ministries, local authorities, counseling and certifying corporations, research institutes and investigating laboratories and our colleagues who are the most dedicated to quality. Among others, the Hungarian Food Safety Office, the Herz Salami Ltd., the Hungarian National Food Safety and Nutrition (OÉTI), General Inspectorate for Consumer Protection, Richter Gedeon Nyrt., Hungarian Trade Licensing Office and the Globus Canning Industry Private Company are members of the committee. GéSz Gaál és Sziklás Kft became member of EOQ MNB in 2008 March, which organization represents the European association.

The organization has 20 special committees, and we became members of the Food Industry Special Committee, the Special Committee of Quality Policies, and the one that audits and certifies Quality Systems. EOQ MNB conducts 15-20 events of greater importance, its most significant programmes are related to the World Quality Day and the European Quality Month, and we can also participate in further 60-80 smaller events, meetings and round table conferences each year. The organization provides us with professional magazines, so we are able to get first-hand information on the current national and foreign results of quality politics.

The EOQ MNB created independent organizations within its own frame, and contributed to their establishment. These entities currently work as independent legal persons in close cooperation with EOQ MNB. It established the Hungarian Quality Society (MMT) in 1991, whose primary aim was to develop the quality culture of domestic economy. The goal of the “House of Hungarian Quality Award” tender, which is announced by the society yearly, is to make domestic products of outstanding quality popular. When applying for this award, it was required that the product be manufactured in Hungary, its quality indices also had to be excellent, and their quality was supposed to be stable as being produced under a certified quality control system. Complying with the requirements, the GéSz Gaál és Sziklás Kft. won the House of Hungarian Quality 2007. Award with the high quality Flavon max, Flavon kids & Flavon max Plus+ product family.

DIRECT SELLING ASSOCIATION (DSA)

Direct Selling Association was created in Hungary on 8 April 1993 by 8 founding members. The Association is the business federation of those leading companies who sell their products and services directly to the customers – in the form of personal selling without shops. Direct Selling Association is a non-profit organization, whose primary tasks are to enhance the appreciation of direct selling as a profession, represent the interests of its member companies and enable consumers to get acquainted with its advantages and recognize reliable companies who comply with the Code of Conduct released by the Federation of European Direct Selling Association (FEDSA) in 1995. It is very important for the association that it is member of the European Association, which embraces 32 national associations, as well as the World Association, which includes 55 member countries. These international relations serve as great opportunities to exchange experience and extend professional knowledge, because mostly those countries participate in it where direct selling has decades-long traditions.

Only those companies can gain membership in Direct Selling Association who trade their products and services via direct selling, work under an own company name or as an agent of a foreign corporation, work legally, comply with the Hungarian legal requirements, and accept the Code of Conduct and the Fundamental Rules of the Association. In the first year after application, each company can participate in the Association as pledge. After the one-year probationary period, a company can gain full membership according to the content of the Fundamental Rules of the Association. It reserves it status until its activity corresponds to the Fundamental Rules of the Association, the Code of Conduct and other legal requirements. Direct Selling companies who are members of the Association provide their consumers with protection exceeding the legal requirements by complying with the Code of Conduct of the profession. The association has 9 members currently. A Flavon Group Kft. becomes full member after the one-year pledge in July 2008.

On the webpage of the Diret Selling Association (www.dsa.hu) the goals and tasks of the organization are available, as well as the Code of Conduct, and further topical information on direct selling.

HUNGARIAN DIETARY SUPPLEMENT ASSOCIATION (MÉKISZ)

The Hungarian Dietary Supplement Association was founded in December 2003. Members of MÉKISZ undertakes not only to the current legal requirements, but also to support consumers’ orientation in the dietary supplement market. The association feels responsible for customers of foodstuffs, most importantly those of dietary supplements, since the successful operation of member companies primarily depends on the confidence of consumers. The Code of Conduct accepted by the Dietary Supplement Division of the Herb Association and Product Council contains those ethical and competition rules that members of the association are obliged to follow. Having agreed to the above written, the GéSz Gaál és Sziklás Kft. has been member of the Association from the beginning. A major advantage of membership is that topical issues related to dietary supplements can be accessed from a first-hand source. The association maintains a close relationship with the professionals of the European Food Safety Office, and lobbies through parliamentary representatives for the interests of the Hungarian dietary supplement producers. The special committee of the European Union provides us with information on a weekly basis. We are active participants of general assemblies, which are organized several times a year, and where lecturers of OÉTI and the General Inspectorate for Consumer Protection call attention to the problems this field has to cope with. Members of MÉKISZ play a role in and express their opinion on the policy related to dietary supplements, for example, creating the list of positive-negative product ingredients, and the statements indicated on the package. Members endeavour to maintain the controllability of products and make sure that consumers get in touch exclusively with secure products. This problem arises primarily in the case of imported, uncontrolled products.
